The 90/180 rule

90 days in any 180. Simple to say. Easy to get wrong.

Your 180-day window moves forward every day, so old days drop out as new ones come in. That’s why your days left isn’t simply 90 minus days used.

FAQ

The 90/180 rule, answered.

Still stuck? Email support@ninetyleft.app.

What is the 90/180 rule?

With a UK passport you can spend up to 90 days in any 180-day period in the Schengen area without a visa. The 180 days aren’t a fixed half-year: on any date, you look back over the 180 days ending that day and count the days you were there.

Do the days I arrive and leave count?

Yes. Any day you were in the Schengen area, even for an hour, counts as a full day. Ninety Left counts arrival and departure days, and counts a day shared by two trips only once.

Why isn’t my days left just 90 minus days used?

Because old days drop out of your window as it moves forward. Ninety Left works out your leave-by date day by day, and How we counted shows exactly why.

What changed with the EES?

Since April 2026, the EU’s Entry/Exit System records every entry and exit at the Schengen border digitally, instead of a stamp in your passport. Overstays are easier to spot, so it pays to know your count.

Where are my trips stored?

On your iPhone only. There’s no account, and your trips are never sent to us.

Is Ninety Left legal advice?

No. It’s a planning aid that counts from the trips you add. Border officers decide how your stay is counted, so check the rules that apply to you with official sources.
